Summary

Chronic immune-mediated demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is treatable, but some cases resist therapy due to alternative diagnoses or severe disease. This review highlights diagnostic challenges and management pitfalls for refractory CIDP.

Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Immunology

Background:

  • Chronic immune-mediated demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a treatable neurological disorder.
  • Approximately 20% of CIDP cases are refractory to first-line treatments.

  • Refractory cases often stem from alternative diagnoses or severe CIDP, complicated by diagnostic criteria ambiguity.
