Summary

New optical cochlear implants (oCIs) using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) offer improved spectral selectivity for hearing restoration. These systems optically stimulate channelrhodopsin-expressing spiral ganglion neurons, overcoming limitations of electrical cochlear implants.
