Standardization of renal function measurements in children: kidney size versus metabolic rate

Body surface area is used to standardize renal function measurements in children. This is appropriate when relating renal function to kidney size. However, standardizing renal function by lean body mass could yield additional insights into the relationships of renal function, diet, growth and general metabolism that are not apparent using surface area.
