Consumer's perception of substance abuse by health-care providers
Journal of National Black Nurses' Association : JNBNA

Abstract:
Recent media attention on substance abuse and drug testing have made health-care consumers more aware of these issues. Consumer views on substance abuse among health-care providers have received little documentation; little is known about how this media exposure has affected consumers' views. This study investigates consumers' perceptions in three areas related to substance abuse (use of illegal drugs as well as abuse of legal drugs and alcohol) and health care providers (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and physical therapists).
