Summary

Desmoplastic ameloblastoma, a rare and aggressive jaw tumor, often mimics other lesions, leading to misdiagnosis. This case highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis for this uncommon ameloblastoma variant.

Background:

Desmoplastic ameloblastoma (DA) is an uncommon variant of ameloblastoma, representing 4-13% of all ameloblastomas.
DA exhibits aggressive behavior and a high potential for misdiagnosis due to overlapping clinical and radiographic features with other jaw lesions.

Observation:

A case report of a 35-year-old male patient with desmoplastic ameloblastoma is presented.
Clinical and radiographic presentations of DA can be similar to fibro-osseous lesions of the jaw.

Findings:

Accurate identification of desmoplastic ameloblastoma is crucial.
DA requires careful differential diagnosis from other benign and malignant jaw tumors.

Implications:

This case underscores the diagnostic challenges associated with desmoplastic ameloblastoma.
Improved awareness and diagnostic criteria for DA can lead to better patient outcomes.
