Background:

HIV research has yielded numerous effective interventions for prevention and treatment.
The evolution of HIV interventions necessitates the discontinuation of less effective or outdated practices.

Purpose of the Study:

To review the current status of de-implementation research within the field of HIV.
To establish the need for increased research into de-implementation strategies for HIV interventions.

Main Methods:

This review synthesizes existing literature on intervention de-implementation in HIV.
Identifies interventions suitable for de-implementation and analyzes the persistence of outdated practices.

Main Results:

Studies have identified specific HIV interventions that are candidates for de-implementation.
Evidence indicates that interventions recommended for discontinuation often persist.
Strategies for the successful de-implementation of HIV interventions remain largely unexamined.

Conclusions:

De-implementing unnecessary interventions presents a significant opportunity to enhance the quality and effectiveness of HIV services.
There is a substantial need and ample opportunity to expand research in HIV intervention de-implementation.
