    • Public Health

    Background:

    • Historically, obesity has been linked to emotional factors and psychopathology by both the public and clinicians.
    • Early psychiatric research supported the idea that psychological issues contribute to the development of obesity.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To challenge the traditional view linking psychopathology as a cause of obesity.
    • To explore the relationship between psychological disturbances and obesity, considering causality.

    Main Methods:

    • Review of existing psychiatric and psychological studies on obesity.
    • Analysis of the influence of cultural factors on the perception of obesity and mental health.
