Self-Report Tests of Personality01:22

Self-Report Tests of Personality

618
Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. One of the most prominent examples is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), initially developed in the 1940s to assess abnormal personality traits.

Five-Factor Theory of Personality01:29

Five-Factor Theory of Personality

1.5K
The five-factor model, often called the Big Five personality traits, is widely accepted in psychology as a comprehensive framework for understanding personality. These five traits — Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism — are often remembered using the acronym OCEAN.
Openness reflects creativity, curiosity, and openness to new experiences. Individuals scoring high in openness are imaginative, have a wide range of interests, and are independent...

Factorial Design02:01

Factorial Design

13.6K
Factorial Analysis is an experimental design that applies Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical procedures to examine a change in a dependent variable due to more than one independent variable, also known as factors. Changes in worker productivity can be reasoned, for example, to be influenced by salary and other conditions, such as skill level. One way to test this hypothesis is by categorizing salary into three levels (low, moderate, and high) and skills sets into two levels (entry level...

Halo Effect01:27

Halo Effect

210
The halo effect is a cognitive bias in which an individual's overall impression influences judgments about their specific traits. This psychological phenomenon leads people to associate positive characteristics with those they perceive as generally good and negative characteristics with those they view as bad. This effect is particularly influential in social perception, professional evaluations, and decision-making processes. The Psychological Basis of the Halo EffectThe halo effect is rooted...

Spearman's Rank Correlation Test01:20

Spearman's Rank Correlation Test

1.2K
Spearman's rank correlation test, also known as Spearman's rho, is a nonparametric method for assessing the strength and direction of association between two variables. This test is particularly valuable when the data distribution is unknown or when the assumption of normality does not hold. Named after the English psychologist and statistician Dr. Charles Edward Spearman, it serves as the nonparametric counterpart to Pearson's correlation coefficient.
Spearman's test calculates correlation by...

Cattell's 16 Personality Factors01:24

Cattell's 16 Personality Factors

1.9K
Raymond Cattell's trait theory offers a structured framework for understanding personality by distinguishing between two critical traits: surface and source traits. Surface traits are observable patterns of behavior, such as indecisiveness, anxiety, and irrational fears. These traits are less stable, varying across situations and over time. This means that they are less helpful in understanding the deeper aspects of an individual's personality.
In contrast, source traits are the...

Area of Science:

  • Educational Psychology
  • Leadership Studies
  • Psychometrics

Background:

  • Effective ethical leadership is crucial in educational settings.
  • The Ethical Leadership Scale (ELS) is a key instrument for measuring this construct.
  • Rigorous psychometric validation is essential for reliable leadership assessment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To psychometrically characterize the Ethical Leadership Scale (ELS) using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch analysis.
  • To evaluate the scale's structure, reliability, and item performance in an international teacher sample.
  • To identify potential improvements for the ELS.

Main Methods:

  • Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to test the ELS's one-factor structure.
  • Rasch Rating Scale Model analysis for item fit, reliability, unidimensionality, local independence, and differential item functioning (DIF).
  • Data collected from 469 teachers across multiple countries.

Main Results:

  • CFA confirmed the one-factor structure of the 10-item ELS.
  • Rasch analysis indicated good item and scale performance, with high reliability.
  • Item 4 showed misfit, and Items 2 and 10 exhibited DIF across Turkish and European respondents; no gender DIF was found.

Conclusions:

  • The 10-item ELS demonstrates good psychometric quality for measuring ethical leadership.
  • Removing Item 4 enhanced the scale's psychometric properties, suggesting potential refinement.
  • The ELS is a reliable tool for assessing ethical leadership in diverse educational contexts.
