The Multiloop Edgewise Archwire (MEAW) technique offers significant dentoalveolar control for severe malocclusions. While beneficial, further research is needed to confirm its long-term effectiveness and applicability across diverse populations.

Background:

The Multiloop Edgewise Archwire (MEAW) appliance is utilized for severe malocclusions like open bites and anterior crossbites.
The Denture Frame Analysis (DFA) aids in patient-specific treatment planning for occlusion rearrangement.

Purpose of the Study:

To provide a comprehensive overview of MEAW and DFA literature.
To analyze therapeutic effects, advantages, and limitations of MEAW and DFA.

Main Methods:

Computerized literature search across major medical databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Cochrane).
Manual reference searching and screening following PRISMA guidelines.
Qualitative analysis of 134 articles and comparative synopsis of 3 studies.

Main Results:

MEAW technique provides high 3D individual tooth control.
Low load deflection rate results in dentoalveolar changes with minimal skeletal impact.
MEAW is a viable alternative for dentoalveolar compensation when orthognathic surgery is declined.

Conclusions:

MEAW technique shows therapeutic benefits as an alternative for dentoalveolar compensation.
Limited scientific evidence necessitates further studies on effectiveness and long-term stability.
Investigate DFA transferability to non-Asian ethnic groups.
