Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Regenerative Medicine
  • Surgical Reconstruction

Background:

  • Urethral strictures, particularly extended or recurrent cases, pose significant reconstructive challenges.
  • Direct vision urethrotomy can lead to urethral stricture formation.
  • Traditional reconstructive methods may have limitations for complex strictures.

Observation:

  • A two-stage procedure utilizing meshed free-foreskin grafts was employed for urethral reconstruction.
  • The technique specifically addressed extended strictures following direct vision urethrotomy.
  • Patient outcomes were assessed following the reconstructive procedure.

Findings:

  • The meshed free-foreskin transplant demonstrated excellent results in reconstructing the urethra.
  • This mesh-graft urethroplasty technique proved effective for extended urethral strictures.
  • The method showed utility in cases of recurrent strictures post-multiple operations.

Implications:

  • Meshed free-foreskin grafting presents a viable and effective option for complex urethral stricture repair.
  • This approach may improve outcomes for patients with challenging urethral defects.
  • Further research could explore long-term efficacy and patient-reported outcomes.
