Area of Science:

  • Antenna Engineering
  • Electromagnetics
  • Microwave Technology

Background:

  • Presents a printed edge-fed antenna, a counterpart to wire Bruce array antennas, designed for frequency scanning applications.
  • The antenna unit-cell incorporates bowtie and semi-circular elements for broadband performance.

Discussion:

  • Achieves wide bandwidth from below 22 GHz to above 38 GHz.
  • Features open-stopband suppression for seamless scanning from backward, through broadside, to forward endfire.
  • Maintains a sidelobe level below -10 dB for efficient scanning.

Key Insights:

  • The proposed antenna offers a peak realized gain of 15.30 dBi.
  • Demonstrates a wide scanning range from -64° to 76°.
  • Its compact size is advantageous for integration into various systems.

Outlook:

  • Potential applications in radar, communication systems, and electronic warfare.
  • Further research could explore miniaturization and integration with active components.
  • Investigating advanced unit-cell designs for even wider bandwidths and improved scanning capabilities.
