Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the experiences of women receiving midwifery care based on their intended place of birth: new birth centers, home, or hospital.
  • To evaluate satisfaction levels with the new midwifery-led birth centers.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 382 women receiving midwifery care.
  • Analysis was stratified by intended place of birth, comparing Composite Satisfaction Scores.
  • Statistical significance was assessed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).

Main Results:

  • Overall satisfaction was high across all intended birth locations (birth center, home, hospital).
  • Women intending to give birth at a birth center reported higher satisfaction if admitted to the center (P = .037).
  • Women using birth centers were satisfied with learners, accessibility, and amenities.

  • Midwifery care is associated with positive experiences and high satisfaction, irrespective of the intended birth location.
  • Women admitted to the new birth centers reported positive experiences.
  • Further research is recommended to understand women's experiences with birth centers more deeply.
