Distant metastases from childhood differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) often persist despite radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment, but disease-specific death is rare, occurring decades later. Fusion genes are common in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), suggesting targeted therapy potential.
