    Summary

This study found that the 2-phase preparation Cyclabil did not impair normal cycle function in most women, with some experiencing pregnancy. It also effectively regulated cycles and relieved premenopausal symptoms.

    Area of Science:

    • Reproductive endocrinology and contraception.

    Background:

    • Hormonal contraceptives are widely used for cycle regulation and pregnancy prevention.
    • Understanding the effects of specific preparations on hormonal profiles and cycle parameters is crucial.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effects of a 2-phase oral contraceptive preparation (Cyclabil) on menstrual cycle function and hormonal levels.
    • To assess the efficacy of Cyclabil in managing premenopausal deficiency symptoms and cycle irregularities.

    Main Methods:

    • 14 normally menstruating women and 20 women with premenopausal symptoms were studied.
    • Hormonal assays (FSH, LH, 17beta-estradiol, progesterone) and cervical mucus assessments were performed.
    • Treatment involved a 2-phase preparation with oestradiol valerate and D,L-norgestrel over multiple cycles.

    Main Results:

    • No impairment of normal cycle function was observed in 13 of 14 women.
    • Two pregnancies occurred during therapy; ovulation was inhibited in one subject.
    • The preparation effectively regulated cycles and eliminated/improved premenopausal symptoms in 19/20 women.
    • Hormonal analysis showed only a slight influence on gonadotropin levels, with estradiol (E2) levels significantly higher than estrone (E1).

    Conclusions:

    • The 2-phase preparation is safe for normal cycle function and effective for managing premenopausal symptoms.
    • It offers reliable cycle regulation and contraception, with minimal impact on natural hormonal balance.
