Background:

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the US.
Prompt symptom recognition is vital for effective treatment.
Family members, especially children, play a key role in emergency response for stroke patients.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess and enhance stroke knowledge among children.
To leverage children as a channel for community-wide stroke awareness.

Main Methods:

A community-based interventional study involving 305 children (grades 2-8).
Pre-test and post-test questionnaires assessed knowledge before and after health education.
Education covered stroke basics, FAST mnemonic, time-sensitive treatments, risk factors, and emergency actions.

Main Results:

Pre-test results indicated a significant deficit in stroke knowledge among children.
Post-test demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in all educational components (p<0.001).
Knowledge gains were consistent across different ages and grades.

Conclusions:

Educating children on stroke is an effective strategy to boost community awareness.
Children can act as vital conduits for transmitting stroke information to families.
Improving pediatric stroke knowledge can increase the likelihood of timely acute stroke therapy.
