Summary

Postmenopausal estrogen replacement therapy appears to reduce the risk of significant coronary artery disease. This study found estrogen users had a lower prevalence of obstructive coronary arterial lesions compared to nonusers.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between postmenopausal estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) and the prevalence of severely obstructive coronary arterial lesions.
  • To determine if ERT influences the risk of developing significant coronary artery disease.

Main Methods:

  • A case-control study was conducted using data from a large urban university-affiliated hospital.
