  • 102 participants (16-80 years) performed bipedal stance on a force platform.
  • Eyes open and closed conditions were used to calculate VPDIs.
  • 29 participants also underwent subjective visual vertical/horizontal assessments.

Main Results:

  • Fifteen VPDIs robustly indicated visual input modulation.
  • Magnitude of modulation varied non-homogeneously across VPDIs.
  • Age and gender did not significantly affect VPDI modulation.

Conclusions:

  • VPDIs offer quantitative assessment of visuo-postural dependency.
  • Potential for aiding evaluation of fall risk.
  • Useful for identifying balance impairments.
