Background:

Observation:

  • A case involving a previously healthy 51-year-old male was investigated.
  • MPMCTA, autopsy, histology, and toxicology analyses were performed.
  • MPMCTA revealed a filling defect in the right coronary artery.

Findings:

  • MPMCTA successfully detected a right coronary artery filling defect consistent with acute coronary thrombosis.
  • Autopsy and histological examinations confirmed the presence of coronary thrombosis.
  • There was strong concordance between MPMCTA findings and the reference standard (autopsy and histology).

Implications:

  • This case supports the systematic implementation of MPMCTA in forensic investigations.
  • MPMCTA can serve as a valuable, non-invasive tool for diagnosing causes of death, particularly cardiovascular events.
  • The findings encourage broader adoption of PMA techniques in legal and forensic contexts in Italy.
