Summary

Extremely elevated carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) levels can occur in benign conditions like xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis. This case highlights that CA19-9 is not a definitive tumor marker and requires cautious interpretation.

Background:

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) is commonly used for staging pancreatobiliary tumors and monitoring treatment.
