Summary

New biomarkers, the elonginB/C-cullin5-SOCS-box-complex (ECS-complex) proteins, show promise for diagnosing acromegaly and growth hormone deficiency (GHD). Combining SOCS2, cullin-5, and Rbx-2 achieved perfect accuracy in distinguishing patients from controls.

  • The elonginB/C-cullin5-SOCS-box-complex (ECS-complex) is involved in regulating growth hormone (GH) receptor levels and cellular GH sensitivity.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the diagnostic potential of individual ECS-complex proteins as biomarkers for acromegaly and GHD.
  • To assess the combined diagnostic performance of specific ECS-complex proteins in GH-related disorders.

Main Methods:

  • Measurement of individual ECS-complex proteins (SOCS2, cullin-5, Rbx-2) in whole blood samples using ELISA.

  • These biomarkers offer superior diagnostic performance compared to IGF-1 in certain patient cohorts.
  • The ECS-complex plays a significant role in GH metabolism and its components are valuable for clinical diagnostics.
