  • A hyperdynamic circulatory state is characterized by tachycardia, hypotension, high cardiac index, and low systemic vascular resistance.

Observation:

  • A 51-year-old male with polymyositis developed respiratory failure and a hyperdynamic circulatory pattern.
  • Initial investigations for common causes of this hemodynamic state were inconclusive.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease of the bone marrow.
  • Treatment with aggressive combination chemotherapy resulted in the normalization of heart rate and arterial pressure.

Implications:

  • Hodgkin's disease may induce a hyperdynamic circulatory state through an unknown mechanism.
