Summary

Postoperative vision loss (POVL) is a rare complication after laparoscopic surgery. Prompt evaluation and treatment, such as methylprednisolone, may restore vision.

Background:

Postoperative vision loss (POVL) is a rare but severe complication.
Recent reports link POVL to laparoscopic procedures.

Observation:

A 34-year-old female experienced complete vision loss post-laparoscopic hysterectomy.
Initial imaging and funduscopic exams showed no abnormalities.

Findings:

The patient received IV methylprednisolone on postoperative day 7.
Vision gradually improved, with full recovery by 2 weeks.

Implications:

POVL following laparoscopic surgery requires urgent evaluation.
Early intervention with corticosteroids may be beneficial for visual recovery.
