Summary

The enhanced layered division multiplexing (En-LDM) scheme improves fixed service reception in next-generation broadcasting without degrading mobile service performance. This novel approach enhances channel capacity for all services.

Background:

  • Traditional Layered Division Multiplexing (LDM) systems suffer from decreased mobile service reception performance due to adjustments in injection levels.

  • There is a need to enhance enhanced layer (EL) service reception without compromising CL service thresholds.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose an enhanced Layered Division Multiplexing (En-LDM) scheme for multi-service transmission in next-generation broadcasting networks.
  • To improve the reception performance of fixed services in the EL.
  • To maintain or improve the reception threshold of CL mobile services.

Main Methods:

  • The proposed En-LDM scheme involves puncturing part of the Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) coded data stream of EL fixed services at the transmitter.
  • This punctured data is then transmitted over the CL of the LDM signal using frequency domain multiplexing (FDM) alongside original CL data.
  • At the receiver, the punctured EL fixed service data is recovered with an improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Main Results:

  • The En-LDM scheme significantly enhances the reception performance of fixed services.
  • The reception SNR threshold for mobile services in the CL is not decreased.
