Background:

  • Accurate and timely diagnosis of COVID-19 is essential for pandemic containment.
  • Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is the current standard but has limitations including high false-negative rates and lengthy turnaround times.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate if computed tomography (CT) imaging can enhance the diagnostic performance for COVID-19 pneumonia.
  • To compare CT findings with RT-PCR status in a large patient cohort.

Main Methods:

  • A multi-center prospective study involving 2581 patients.
  • CT scans suggestive of COVID-19 pneumonia were independently reviewed by three radiologists.
  • Patients were categorized into RT-PCR positive, negative, and unknown subgroups for comparative analysis of CT features.
