Abstract:
Incidentally diagnosed, asymptomatic, paranasal fungus ball might occasionally undergo spontaneous healing. Accurate preoperative workup may avoid unnecessary surgical or anesthesiological procedures.
Insights
Asymptomatic paranasal fungus balls may heal spontaneously. Accurate preoperative evaluation can prevent unnecessary surgeries and anesthesia.
Area of Science:
- Otolaryngology
- Medical Imaging
Background:
- Paranasal fungus balls are fungal accumulations in the sinuses.
- They are often found incidentally in asymptomatic patients.
Observation:
- Some cases of paranasal fungus balls may resolve without intervention.
- This spontaneous healing is an occasional phenomenon.
Findings:
- Accurate preoperative assessment is crucial for managing paranasal fungus balls.
- Diagnostic imaging and clinical evaluation aid in determining the best course of action.
Implications:
- Appropriate workup can prevent unnecessary surgical procedures for paranasal fungus balls.
- Avoiding unnecessary interventions reduces risks associated with surgery and anesthesia.
