Background:

  • Breast cancer is a leading malignancy in women, with incidence on the rise.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is crucial for differentiating benign and malignant breast tumors.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values and histopathologic prognostic factors in breast cancer patients.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluated 49 breast carcinoma patients for prognostic factors: histological type, grade, ER, PR, HER2, and molecular subtype.
  • Compared minimum (ADCmin) and mean (ADCmean) ADC values using Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests.

Main Results:

  • Lower ADCmin and ADCmean values were found in no special type (NST) compared to invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC).
  • Significantly lower ADCmin and ADCmean values were observed in the high Ki-67 group versus the low Ki-67 group.
  • No correlation was found between ADC values and histological grades, ER, PR, HER2, or molecular subtypes.

Conclusions:

  • ADC values correlate with the proliferation marker Ki-67.
  • ADC values can serve as noninvasive indicators of cell proliferation in breast cancer.
