Mesozoic cupules and the origin of the angiosperm second integument

Newly discovered Early Cretaceous fossils reveal recurved cupules comparable to the second integument of angiosperm ovules. This finding offers insights into the origin of angiosperms (flowering plants) and the evolution of the carpel.
