Abstract:
Retraction: "Long noncoding RNA SNHG16 contributes to the development of bladder cancer via regulating miR-98/STAT3/Wnt/β-catenin pathway axis," by Feng Feng, Aiping Chen, Junjian Huang, Qinghua Xia, Yougen Chen, Xunbo Jin, J Cell Biochem. 2018; 9408-9418: The above article, published online on 21 August 2018 in Wiley Online Library (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/jcb.27257), has been retracted by agreement between the journal's Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Christian Behl, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation based on allegations raised by a third party. Several flaws and inconsistencies between results presented and experimental methods described were found, the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid. The authors collaborated in the investigation initially, but were not available for a final confirmation of the retraction.
Insights
This study on bladder cancer development has been retracted due to significant flaws. The findings regarding long noncoding RNA SNHG16 are considered invalid by the journal editors.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Molecular Biology
- Genetics
Context:
- The article investigated the role of long noncoding RNA SNHG16 in bladder cancer progression.
- It proposed a regulatory pathway involving miR-98, STAT3, and the Wnt/β-catenin signaling cascade.
Purpose:
- To elucidate the molecular mechanisms driving bladder cancer development.
- To identify potential therapeutic targets based on the SNHG16 pathway.
Summary:
- The study has been retracted due to identified flaws and inconsistencies.
- The editors found the presented results and experimental methods to be unreliable.
- Consequently, the conclusions regarding SNHG16's role in bladder cancer are deemed invalid.
Impact:
- This retraction invalidates previous findings on the SNHG16/miR-98/STAT3/Wnt/β-catenin axis in bladder cancer.
- It highlights the importance of rigorous validation in scientific research.
- Researchers should exercise caution when referencing the retracted study's conclusions.

Somatic Spinal Reflexes
One of the most well-known somatic spinal reflexes is the stretch reflex, which is activated by the sudden stretching of a muscle. This reflex involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors called muscle spindles, which are located in the muscle tissue and detect changes in the length and speed of muscle contractions. When a muscle is suddenly...

Relaxation of Skeletal Muscles
When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, it depolarizes the membrane and opens voltage-gated sodium channels. Sodium ions enter the cell, further depolarizing the presynaptic membrane. This depolarization causes voltage-gated calcium channels to open....
