Background:

  • Limited evidence exists on organizing pre-patient Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) training.
  • Effective methods for evaluating the impact of EUS training on knowledge and skills are needed.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the impact of a structured, multi-site training program on Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) competence.
  • To evaluate the acceptance and effectiveness of different training components.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study involving 64 trainees across three sites.
  • Utilized pre- and post-test questionnaires with Likert scales for relevance, acceptance, and self-rated skills.
  • Assessed theoretical knowledge using multiple-choice questions.

Main Results:

  • Training components received above-average acceptance ratings (median 4-5).
  • Self-rated EUS skills significantly improved (Likert scale 4 to 2, p=0.001).
  • Theoretical knowledge showed significant improvement (7.9±1.9 to 8.8±1.9 points, p=0.001).

Conclusions:

  • A structured EUS training program is useful and well-accepted by participants.
  • The program leads to high self-rated EUS competence and significant knowledge gains.
  • This study supports the implementation of structured EUS training initiatives.
