Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess emergency physicians' (EPs) and acute care health professionals' (ACHPs) intention to use wiki-based knowledge tools in trauma care.
  • To identify determinants of this intention for developing theory-based interventions.

Main Methods:

  • A survey based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) was administered to 266 EPs and 907 ACHPs across 12 Quebec trauma centers.
  • Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, and multiple linear regression to identify salient beliefs influencing intention.

Main Results:

  • Attitude, perceived behavioral control (PBC), and subjective norm (SN) significantly predicted intention for EPs (62% variance) and ACHPs (60% variance).
  • For EPs, salient beliefs included physician/patient approval and memory refresh/error reduction. For ACHPs, beliefs involved team approval, IT comfort, time constraints, and evidence access.

Conclusions:

  • Attitude, SN, and PBC are key predictors of intention to use wiki-based tools in trauma care.
  • Identified salient beliefs can inform interventions to overcome barriers, ensure content quality, foster contributions, and promote wikis as knowledge translation tools.
