Background:

  • Lower third molar impaction can cause neurosensory complications like hemi-lip paresthesia.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a rare case of hemi-lip paresthesia linked to an impacted lower third molar.
  • To evaluate the efficacy of piezoelectric surgery in treating this condition.

Main Methods:

  • A 64-year-old male with hemi-lip paresthesia underwent surgical extraction of an impacted lower left third molar using piezoelectric instruments.
  • Pre- and post-operative sensory tests (tactile, pain, thermal) were performed.

Main Results:

  • Significant reduction in hemi-lip hypoesthesia was observed within 7 days post-surgery.
  • Improved tactile and thermal sensitivity continued at 1 and 3 months follow-up.

Conclusions:

  • Piezoelectric surgery is an effective treatment for impacted third molars causing neurosensory deficits.
  • This surgical approach can prevent damage to the inferior alveolar nerve and promote paresthesia regression.
