Immunotherapy is a treatment that boosts or manipulates the immune system to fight diseases, including cancer. For instance, by stimulating an immune response through vaccinations against viruses that cause cancers, like hepatitis B virus and human papillomavirus, these diseases can be prevented. Nonetheless, some cancer cells can avoid the immune system due to their rapid mutation and division. The immune response to many cancers involves three phases: elimination, equilibrium, and escape.

    Summary

    Immunotherapy significantly increases antigen-specific IgG4 levels in allergic patients. Higher IgG4 concentrations correlate with longer treatment duration and improved clinical recovery in pollen-allergic individuals.

    Background:

    • Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) is a treatment for allergic diseases.
    • Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) plays a role in the immune response to allergens.
    • Understanding IgG4 dynamics during AIT is crucial for treatment optimization.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the impact of AIT on antigen-specific IgG4 levels.
    • To investigate the relationship between IgG4 levels, treatment duration, and clinical outcomes in allergic patients.

    Main Methods:

    • Study included 35 asthmatic patients sensitized to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus.
    • Study included 226 pollinic patients sensitized to Phleum pratense, with and without AIT.
    • Antigen-specific IgG4 levels were measured and correlated with clinical recovery.
