Summary
Diabetic foot ulcers can rarely indicate angiosarcoma, a serious cancer. Early tissue biopsy is crucial for diagnosing diabetic mellitus complications, especially nonhealing wounds.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Vascular Biology
- Diabetology
Background:
- Diabetic foot is a frequent complication of diabetes mellitus (DM).
- Prolonged nonhealing wounds in diabetic patients warrant thorough investigation.
Observation:
- A patient with diabetes presented with a two-month history of a plantar lesion.
- The patient subsequently developed hemoptysis, respiratory failure, and purpuric limb papules.
Findings:
- Biopsy of the plantar lesion revealed angiosarcoma.
- This case highlights a rare presentation of angiosarcoma in a diabetic foot.
Implications:
- Early tissue biopsy is recommended for diabetic patients with persistent nonhealing wounds.
- This approach can facilitate the timely diagnosis of rare underlying conditions like angiosarcoma.
