Abstract:
Retraction: "Down-regulation of microRNA let-7d inhibits the proliferation and invasion of trophoblast cells in preeclampsia," by Xu Dai, Yan Cai, J Cell Biochem. 2018; 1141-1151: The above article, published online on 13 July 2017 in Wiley Online Library (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jcb.26282) has been retracted by agreement between the the journal's Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Christian Behl, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation based on allegations raised by a third party. A detailed investigation revealed that several image elements of the experimental data were published elsewhere in a different scientific context. Thus, the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid.
Insights
This study on preeclampsia has been retracted due to duplicated image data. The findings regarding microRNA let-7d and trophoblast cell behavior are now considered invalid.
Area of Science:
- Cell Biology
- Molecular Biology
- Reproductive Medicine
Context:
- Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication affecting trophoblast cell function.
- MicroRNAs play a role in regulating cellular processes relevant to pregnancy.
Purpose:
- To investigate the role of microRNA let-7d in trophoblast cell proliferation and invasion.
- To explore potential therapeutic targets for preeclampsia.
Summary:
- The article investigated the down-regulation of microRNA let-7d and its effect on trophoblast cells in preeclampsia.
- Allegations of duplicated experimental image data led to an investigation.
- The journal editors retracted the article due to invalid conclusions stemming from data integrity issues.
Impact:
- The retraction invalidates previous findings on microRNA let-7d's role in preeclampsia.
- This highlights the importance of rigorous data verification in scientific publishing.
- Further research is needed to clarify the actual role of microRNA let-7d in preeclampsia.

Somatic Spinal Reflexes
One of the most well-known somatic spinal reflexes is the stretch reflex, which is activated by the sudden stretching of a muscle. This reflex involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors called muscle spindles, which are located in the muscle tissue and detect changes in the length and speed of muscle contractions. When a muscle is suddenly...

Relaxation of Skeletal Muscles
When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, it depolarizes the membrane and opens voltage-gated sodium channels. Sodium ions enter the cell, further depolarizing the presynaptic membrane. This depolarization causes voltage-gated calcium channels to open....
