Abstract:
Retraction: "High expression of TCF12 contributes to gastric cancer development via being target regulated by miR-183 and activating PI3K/AKT pathway," by Xuekui Wang, Shen Gao, Feng Xie, Wei Li, Miyang Li, Ning Yan, Tiehe Gao, and Ling Fang, J Cell Biochem. 2019; 13903-13911: The above article, published online on 15 April 2019 in Wiley Online Library (https://doi.org/10.1002/jcb.28664), has been retracted by agreement between the authors, the journal's Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Christian Behl, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed after the authors asked to retract their article due to flawed data. A detailed investigation revealed multiple inappropriate modifications especially in the backgrounds of blots. Since original data could not be provided, the overall validity of the results could not be confirmed. The authors were not available for a final confirmation of the retraction.
Insights
This study on gastric cancer development is retracted due to flawed data and inappropriate modifications in blot backgrounds. Original data could not be provided, invalidating the results.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Molecular Biology
- Biochemistry
Context:
- Gastric cancer is a significant global health concern.
- Understanding the molecular mechanisms driving gastric cancer is crucial for developing effective therapies.
Purpose:
- To investigate the role of TCF12 in gastric cancer development.
- To explore the regulatory relationship between miR-183 and TCF12.
- To examine the involvement of the PI3K/AKT pathway in TCF12-mediated gastric cancer progression.
Summary:
- The article investigated the high expression of TCF12 in gastric cancer.
- It proposed that TCF12 is regulated by miR-183 and activates the PI3K/AKT pathway.
- However, the study was retracted due to flawed data, including inappropriate modifications in blot backgrounds.
Impact:
- The retraction highlights the importance of data integrity in scientific publishing.
- It underscores the need for rigorous verification of experimental results, especially in cancer research.
- This retraction prevents the dissemination of potentially misleading findings regarding gastric cancer pathogenesis.

Somatic Spinal Reflexes
One of the most well-known somatic spinal reflexes is the stretch reflex, which is activated by the sudden stretching of a muscle. This reflex involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors called muscle spindles, which are located in the muscle tissue and detect changes in the length and speed of muscle contractions. When a muscle is suddenly...

Relaxation of Skeletal Muscles
When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, it depolarizes the membrane and opens voltage-gated sodium channels. Sodium ions enter the cell, further depolarizing the presynaptic membrane. This depolarization causes voltage-gated calcium channels to open....
