Epistaxis, or nosebleeds, occurs when small, swollen blood vessels in the nasal mucous membrane rupture. Typically, the anterior septum is the primary site of occurrence.

Summary

Preservation rhinoplasty (PR) widens the internal nasal valve angle, improving nasal function. This approach also leads to high patient satisfaction with both functional and aesthetic outcomes.

Background:

  • Preservation rhinoplasty (PR) is an innovative technique associated with high patient satisfaction.
  • Limited data exists on the functional and radiological outcomes of PR.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the functional and radiological outcomes of preservation rhinoplasty.
  • To assess patient satisfaction following PR.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective clinical study of 30 patients undergoing PR.
  • Radiological assessment using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) pre- and post-surgery.
  • Patient-reported outcomes measured via the Rhinoplasty Outcomes Evaluation (ROE) questionnaire.

Main Results:

  • PR resulted in a preserved and widened internal nasal valve (INV) angle post-surgery (20.77° to 21.82°).
  • High patient satisfaction reported for both functional and aesthetic results (ROE score 18.4 ± 4.3).

Conclusions:

  • Preservation rhinoplasty effectively preserves and widens the internal nasal valve angle.
  • PR demonstrates high patient satisfaction regarding functional and aesthetic improvements.
