Summary

Moderate egg consumption may benefit arterial stiffness, a cardiovascular disease precursor. This study found no significant difference between low and high egg intake, but 3-3.9 eggs/week showed a reduced increase in arterial stiffness.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the longitudinal association between egg consumption and arterial stiffness (baPWV).
  • To assess how different levels of egg intake affect the progression of arterial stiffness in a Chinese population.

  • Utilized data from 7315 Chinese participants in the Kailuan Study, excluding those with prior CVD or cancer.
  • Assessed egg consumption via a validated food frequency questionnaire and measured baPWV repeatedly over a mean follow-up of 3.41 years.
