This study shows that an e-learning activity significantly improved nursing students' knowledge of continence and mobility. Students found the educational approach beneficial and enjoyable.
Area of Science:
- Nursing Education
- Geriatric Care
- Digital Health
Background:
- Continence and mobility are crucial aspects of geriatric care.
- Effective assessment and management strategies are essential for nursing practice.
- E-learning offers a flexible platform for health professional education.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the effectiveness of a newly developed e-learning activity for student nurses.
- To assess improvements in student nurses' knowledge regarding continence and mobility.
- To determine student nurses' perceptions of the e-learning activity's benefits and style.
Main Methods:
- A quasi-experimental pre-post-test design was employed.
- Knowledge of continence was assessed using an 18-item true/false quiz (n=116).
- Learning feedback was gathered via a Likert-style survey (n=135).
Main Results:
- A statistically significant increase in student nurses' knowledge of continence and its link to mobility was observed.
- The e-learning intervention positively impacted students' knowledge, confidence, and perceptions of older adults.
- The educational module was perceived as beneficial and enjoyable by the participants.
Conclusions:
- The developed e-learning activity demonstrates potential for enhancing nursing students' understanding of continence and mobility.
- This digital learning tool offers an engaging method to improve essential geriatric care knowledge.
- The findings support the integration of e-learning in nursing curricula for specialized topics.
