Area of Science:

  • Biochemistry
  • Clinical Diagnostics
  • Gerontology

Background:

  • D-dimer is a fibrin degradation product.
  • Elevated D-dimer is associated with thrombotic events.
  • Salivary diagnostics are an emerging field.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate D-dimer levels in mixed saliva.
  • To compare D-dimer in healthy individuals and patients with comorbidities.
  • To assess the influence of age and specific pathologies on salivary D-dimer.

Main Methods:

  • Saliva samples collected from diverse cohorts.
  • Quantitative analysis of D-dimer concentration.
  • Statistical analysis to correlate D-dimer with age and health status.

Main Results:

  • Salivary D-dimer levels increase with age across all groups.
  • Patients with comorbidities exhibited altered D-dimer levels.
  • The highest D-dimer concentrations were observed in individuals with erosive gastritis.

Conclusions:

  • Age is a significant factor influencing salivary D-dimer.
  • Salivary D-dimer may serve as a biomarker for certain conditions.
  • Erosive gastritis is associated with markedly elevated salivary D-dimer.
