Morphological changes in the acrosome of bull spermatozoa during various seasons of the year
1Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding, Polish Academy of Sciences, Jastrzebiec.
Abstract:
The purpose of the investigation was to characterize morphological changes of the acrosomal cap of bull spermatozoa during different seasons of the year. The examination covered 113 ejaculates obtained from 30 dairy bulls over a period of one year. The season of the year significantly influenced the morphological changes in the acrosome of bull spermatozoa. The lowest percentage of morphological changes in the acrosome was found in ejaculates obtained in spring, the greatest one in those obtained in autumn (P less than or equal to 0.01). There was found no correlation between the percentage of spermatozoa motility and normal acrosomes.
