Background:

Individual personality traits are recognized as significant factors influencing maladaptive behaviors.
Beyond social and environmental influences, personal characteristics play a role in criminal conduct.

Purpose of the Study:

To systematically review the existing literature on the relationship between individual personality traits and criminal behavior.
To identify specific personality dimensions associated with criminality.

Main Methods:

A systematic literature search was performed across major academic databases: Sage, Web of Science, APA PsycNet, Wiley Online Library, and PubMed.
Information regarding the link between personality traits and criminal behavior was extracted and synthesized.

Main Results:

The review identified three key personality traits associated with criminality: psychopathy, low self-control, and difficult temperament.
These traits represent significant individual-level risk factors for criminal behavior.

Conclusions:

Personality traits are intrinsically linked to maladaptive behavior and criminality.
Recognizing personality dimensions as risk factors can enhance our understanding and management of criminal behavior.
