Summary

Pneumonia, a leading cause of death, is often caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. This study found that the typical stages of lobar pneumonia (congestion, red hepatization, gray hepatization) often coexist and are not sequential, with complications like heart failure and meningitis being common.
