Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people.

Background:

Effective research understanding is crucial for nursing practice.
Experiential learning can enhance comprehension of complex research concepts.

Purpose of the Study:

To design and evaluate a collaborative, experiential learning activity for nursing students.
To improve nursing students' grasp of fundamental research concepts, particularly sampling techniques.

Main Methods:

Students worked in pairs to analyze candy color distribution using 100 candies.
Employed four sampling methods: simple random, systematic, stratified, and cluster sampling.
Utilized a Google spreadsheet for data entry and collaborative analysis during debriefing.

Main Results:

Students actively engaged with different sampling techniques and their outcomes.
Debriefing facilitated discussions on sample representativeness, potential errors, and ethical considerations.
The activity provided practical insights into data collection and analysis.

Conclusions:

This experiential activity effectively enhanced nursing students' understanding of research concepts.
Students gained practical knowledge to critically evaluate research and advocate for quality nursing care.
The collaborative approach fostered deeper learning and problem-solving skills in research methodology.
