Psychic considerations about the debt in transplantation with living donnor. This article describes the most typical forms of debt and their associated processes, as experienced by patients receiving organs from living donors: economical debt, where the gift is experienced as a merchandize; emotional debt and its associated processes of giving back; and symbolic debt, with its potential life changing effect. These debts can either result in negative consequences and life threatening behaviors, or can be accepted and transformed, depending on the patients conscious and unconscious expectations of the gift and its associated impact on their relationship. Taking these debts and their impacts into account, as well as supporting both the donor and the recipient into transforming their representation of the gift contribute to the long term success of transplants and the quality of life of the actors.
