Multiple peripheral pulmonary artery aneurysms are rare in children after bacterial endocarditis. Early diagnosis via computed tomography pulmonary angiography is vital to prevent rupture and sudden death.
Area of Science:
- Pediatric Cardiology
- Pulmonary Medicine
- Vascular Surgery
Background:
- Bacterial endocarditis can lead to rare complications in children.
- Peripheral pulmonary artery aneurysms are uncommon and often asymptomatic.
Observation:
- A case of multiple peripheral pulmonary artery aneurysms in a child presenting with hemoptysis after bacterial endocarditis is described.
- The condition is clinically non-specific, making early recognition challenging.
Findings:
- Computed tomography pulmonary angiography is the preferred diagnostic imaging modality.
- Rupture of these aneurysms poses a critical risk of sudden death.
Implications:
- Prompt diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach are essential for effective management.
- Optimizing treatment strategies can improve survival rates in affected children.
