We introduce GO-DEVS, a novel system for storing and retrieving Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) models using graph and ontology representations. This facilitates efficient searching and sharing of reusable DEVS models.
Area of Science:
- Computer Science
- Modeling and Simulation
- Software Engineering
Background:
- Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) is a formal language for component-based design, emphasizing model reusability.
- Existing systems lack systematic methods for storing and retrieving diverse DEVS models, hindering effective sharing and reuse.
- The need for a robust system to manage and access a growing repository of DEVS models is critical for the modeling and simulation community.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose GO-DEVS (Graph/Ontology-represented DEVS storage and retrieval system).
- To enable systematic storage and efficient retrieval of DEVS models.
- To facilitate effective sharing and reuse of component-based DEVS models.
Main Methods:
- Developed GO-DEVS, a system utilizing graph and ontology representations for DEVS models.
- Integrated ontology representation during DEVS model development for enhanced sharing capabilities.
- Implemented a method for storing and querying DEVS models on a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), supporting IO and structure queries.
Main Results:
- GO-DEVS successfully stores and retrieves DEVS models using graph and ontology structures.
- The system supports novel IO and structure query types for effective model searching.
- Experimental results demonstrate the efficient query processing capabilities of GO-DEVS.
Conclusions:
- GO-DEVS provides a systematic solution for managing and retrieving DEVS models.
- The proposed graph/ontology representation and query methods enhance DEVS model sharing and reusability.
- This system addresses the current limitations in DEVS model management, paving the way for broader adoption and collaboration.
