Summary

Sentinel lymph node (SLN) sampling using indocyanine green dye is effective for staging endometrial cancer. This robot-assisted technique demonstrated high sensitivity and negative predictive value in a teaching hospital setting.

Background:

  • Sentinel lymph node (SLN) sampling is a standard for endometrial cancer staging.
  • Indocyanine green dye with near-infrared light detection is a simple and sensitive SLN mapping technique.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of SLN sampling in robot-assisted surgical staging of endometrial cancer.
  • To assess the map rate, sensitivity, and predictive values of SLN sampling in this context.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of patients undergoing robot-assisted surgery with cervical indocyanine green injection.
  • Analysis of map rate, sensitivity, false negatives, and negative predictive value.

Main Results:

  • 79 patients met inclusion criteria; 72.2% had stage I disease.
  • SLN mapping achieved a 91.1% positive map rate and 78.5% bilateral mapping.
  • Sensitivity was 80% and negative predictive value was 97.5% for SLN sampling.

Conclusions:

  • SLN mapping and sampling in endometrial cancer staging are comparable to published data.
  • This technique shows potential for standardizing endometrial cancer staging across various clinical settings.
