Summary

Hepatic small vessel neoplasm (HSVN) is a rare liver tumor that mimics angiosarcoma but is less aggressive. A systematic review found no recurrences in 23 cases, suggesting a benign clinical course.

Background:

  • Hepatic small vessel neoplasm (HSVN) is a newly identified liver vascular tumor.
  • HSVN can be mistaken for hepatic angiosarcoma (AS) due to its infiltrative growth.
  • HSVN is considered less aggressive than AS.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review the literature on hepatic small vessel neoplasms.
  • To guide surveillance strategies for HSVN based on existing case data.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines.
  • Searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, Google Scholar, and case report journals.
  • Used terms "hepatic small vessel neoplasm" and "hepatic small vessel neoplasia".

Main Results:

  • Identified 23 cases of HSVN from 6 eligible articles.
  • Median patient age was 58 years, with a male predominance (17 M: 6 F).
  • Mean tumor size was 2.8 cm; no recurrences were reported during a mean follow-up of 7 months, regardless of resection margins.
