    Background:

    Observation:

    • Four young male English Bulldogs presented with regurgitation, vomiting, and aspiration pneumonia.
    • Esophageal radiography revealed esophageal deviation as the primary cause.
    • Exploratory thoracotomy in two dogs indicated compression of the esophagus by the left subclavian artery and brachiocephalic artery.

    Findings:

    • The esophageal deviation was directly correlated with vascular compression at the 2nd and 3rd intercostal spaces.
    • Surgical redirection of the left subclavian artery was performed.
    • Immediate and long-lasting remission of clinical signs was observed post-surgery.

    Implications:

    • Vascular ring anomalies, specifically left subclavian artery compression, should be considered in young dogs with esophageal deviation.
    • Surgical intervention can effectively resolve clinical signs associated with this condition.
    • This study highlights the importance of diagnostic imaging and surgical exploration in diagnosing and treating complex canine esophageal issues.
