  • To evaluate the impact of the IPE experience on students' self-assessed interprofessional competencies using the ICCAS.

  • Twenty-three students completed the Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Survey (ICCAS) pre- and post-experience.
  • Student case presentations were analyzed for audiology-related recommendations.
  • Descriptive analysis of the IPE case and quantitative analysis of ICCAS data were performed.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements (p ≤ .01) were observed in all 20 items of the ICCAS, indicating enhanced self-assessed interprofessional skills.
  • Twelve student teams developed case presentations, with 11 teams making specific recommendations for patient communication needs.
  • Audiologic details provided in the simulated case positively influenced student considerations of communication.

Conclusions:

  • The collaborative case experience effectively enhanced students' perceived interprofessional collaboration competencies.
  • IPE opportunities are valuable for developing essential skills for interprofessional practice.
  • Incorporating discipline-specific information, such as audiology, can broaden students' perspectives on patient care needs.
